Young Firefighters Learn About Rescue Helicopter Christoph 25 in Siegen
Young firefighters from Halberbracht recently visited the rescue helicopter Christoph 25 at Siegen's Jung-Stilling Hospital. The visit aimed to educate them about the aircraft's capabilities and the work of air rescuers.
The youngsters learned about the navigation, controls, power, height capabilities, and maintenance of the helicopter. They also discussed the cost of purchasing such a helicopter, which ranges from 5 to 7 million euros, and the expense of a single mission, typically around 2,000 to 3,000 euros, depending on flight duration and operational factors.
The pilot and emergency medical technician (HEMS) explained the helicopter's technology and answered the youngsters' questions. The visit also gave them an impression of the daily work of air rescuers and the challenges associated with air rescue missions. Such insights are valuable for fire service training and can motivate young people to pursue a career in the active fire service.
The youth fire brigade Halberbracht thanked the entire team of Christoph 25 for their friendly welcome and the impressive tour. The visit provided the young firefighters with a unique opportunity to learn about the vital role of rescue helicopters in emergency services.
