The electric vehicle (EV) landscape is continually evolving, and Chinese automaker Xpeng is making significant strides in the market. Last week, deliveries of the first Indonesian assembled X9 to local customers in Jakarta began, marking a milestone for the company. Simultaneously, the Xpeng G6 RHD model is already available in Australia, with ongoing deliveries expected into early 2026.

The X9, with its 800 V architecture, boasts impressive charging times. The larger all-wheel-drive variants can charge from 10-80% in as little as 12 minutes at 480 kW chargers, while the rest of the variants take approximately 20 minutes for the same charge. This speed is made possible by the X9's advanced technology, which also enables a 0-100 km/h sprint in just 5.7 seconds for the all-wheel-drive variants, and 7.7 seconds for the base model.

The X9's larger all-wheel-drive variants are equipped with a 105 kWh battery, offering a CLTC range of up to 740 km. In contrast, the base variant uses a 94.8 kWh battery, providing a CLTC range of up to 650 km. The WLTP range for the base variant is estimated to be around 580 km.

The X9's interior is luxurious, with captain's chairs for all passengers in the top-spec 7-seater model. Additionally, Xpeng showcased the first right-hand-drive version of the G6 SUV alongside the X9, indicating a potential localised production strategy for right-hand-drive markets like Indonesia, South-East Asia, and potentially Australia. This strategy could provide greater access to the latest EV architectures and platforms from Xpeng.

On the other hand, the Xpeng G6 RHD is already making waves in Australia. Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chipset and Nvidia Orin-X processor, the new G6 offers a significant boost in processing power compared to mainstream cars. The new G6's processing power is 7.5 times the AI processing power and 3x the graphics speed of mainstream cars' computing power in the local market.

Riz Akhtar, a mechanical engineer and founder of carloop based in Melbourne, has been an early adopter of the Xpeng G6 RHD. With a passion for EVs and a goal to reduce transport emissions in Australia, Akhtar currently drives a red Tesla Model 3. His experience with the G6 has been positive, and he has documented his delivery experience in July 2025.

However, as of August 2025, there is no confirmed production or release timeline for the right-hand-drive version of the X9 in Australia. Other Chinese EV brands such as Zeekr and BYD are actively launching new models in right-hand-drive for Australia around this time, but no direct mention has been made about the X9 for Australia.

In conclusion, the Xpeng G6 RHD version is currently available in Australia with ongoing deliveries expected into early 2026, while the Xpeng X9 RHD version has no confirmed production or release timeline in Australia as of the latest 2025 information.

The electric vehicle landscape is experiencing growth, with Xpeng's X9 marking a milestone in Indonesia and the Xpeng G6 RHD available in Australia. The X9 boasts quick charging times and impressive performance, thanks to advanced technology. The larger all-wheel-drive X9 variants offer a CLTC range of up to 740 km with a 105 kWh battery. Riz Akhtar, an early adopter of the Xpeng G6 RHD in Australia, finds its advanced technology and powerful processing capabilities to be a game-changer in the automotive industry. However, there is no confirmed production or release timeline for the X9 in Australia, while other Chinese EV brands are launching new models for the right-hand-drive market.
