WWDC 2025: Significant Redesigns Anticipated for watchOS 12 and tvOS 19
Apple is rumored to be revamping the design of its operating systems, with the upcoming iOS 19 potentially introducing a translucent and glass-like interface, inspired by the visionOS used in its Vision Pro headset. The redesign, codenamed "Solarium," is said to mark a significant departure from the flat design that was introduced in iOS 7.
According to a report by Mark Gurman at Bloomberg, the design changes will not be restricted to iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, but are also expected to extend to tvOS and watchOS. This move is likely an effort to maintain consistency across Apple's entire ecosystem.
In addition to the revamped iOS 19 design, there are rumors that Apple is looking to make iPads more Mac-like with the launch of iPadOS 19. This could mean improvements to multitasking, app window management, and productivity, as well as the addition of a Mac-style menu bar when an iPad is connected to one of Apple's Magic Keyboards.
The design of visionOS is expected to influence the changes in the other operating systems, with visionOS 3 said to be receiving some adjustments in areas where changes make sense for a headset. It is worth noting that the upcoming visionOS 3 version is rumored to have design tweaks, but specific details are not yet clear.
The redesign of iOS 19 has been referred to as the most dramatic overhaul in Apple's history, aiming to transform the interface of the iPhone, iPad, and Mac for a new generation of users. However, the internet has been abuzz with controversial design leaks, so it remains to be seen how Apple will execute this ambitious project.
The design changes are expected to be officially announced at WWDC 2025, which is tentatively scheduled for June 9. This event will offer more insights into the new features and design philosophies driving Apple's ecosystem updates.
