In the bustling city of Novosibirsk, Microsoft 365's Windows 10 operating system has been a popular choice among both private and corporate clients. According to a separate report by BFM - Novosibirsk, Windows 10 has been the most used messenger in the region. However, this is set to change as Microsoft 365 has announced the end of support for Windows 10, effective from October 14, 2025.

This decision means that devices running Windows 10 will no longer receive critical fixes or protection against new threats. As a result, continued use of this operating system, particularly for corporate networks, poses significant risks. Cybersecurity experts recommend upgrading to Windows 11 or considering alternative operating systems in advance.

The popularity of Windows 10 can be attributed to its free updates from previous versions and seamless integration with Microsoft 365's cloud services. As of September 2025, Windows 10 is used by 51% of private clients and 60% of corporate clients in Novosibirsk.

Globally, Windows 10 has become one of Microsoft 365's most successful operating systems, released in 2015 and quickly gaining popularity. Despite the official end of support for Windows 10 in October 2025, many companies worldwide, including possibly some in Russia, continue to use Windows 10 due to its widespread adoption (60% globally) and compatibility considerations.

It is important to note that specific information about which companies in Russia currently use Windows 10 as their operating system is not publicly detailed. However, the availability of Microsoft 365 products, such as consoles, via parallel imports in Russia suggests that some corporate and consumer use of Microsoft 365 products persists.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated development, the FSB has detained a woman suspected of sabotage on the Trans-Siberian Railway in Novosibirsk. Microsoft Games, a separate entity, is not related to this incident.

The October security update will mark the last for Windows 10, signalling the beginning of a new era for the tech industry in Novosibirsk and beyond. It is essential for users to prepare for this transition to ensure the continued security and efficiency of their systems.
