In the heart of Wuppertal, Germany, a significant shift towards a greener future is underway. The city's street cleaning vehicles, operated by ESW, are now refueling with HVO 100, a climate-friendly fuel produced from biological waste materials such as vegetable oil or fat.

This move is another example of responsible use of natural resources, as the refueling of ESW vehicles with HVO 100 reduces greenhouse gas emissions. Sascha Grabowski, ESW operations manager and AWG managing director, stated that this is a step in the right direction for climate protection. Lukas Kwiotek, ESW department head for street cleaning and winter service, mentioned that AWG vehicles and sweepers for street cleaning are daily contributors to climate protection.

The benefits of HVO 100 are numerous. It offers cleaner burning, which extends the lifespan of engines, reducing deposits and saving costs. Moreover, the use of HVO 100 reduces the load on particle filters, potentially decreasing cleaning effort.

The expanded cooperation between ESW and Remondis Rhein-Wupper, managed by Jonas de Clerque, involves the use of short distances and existing infrastructure. Eleven additional ESW vehicles are currently refueling at the HVO-100 pump on the "Remondis" site at Uhlenbruch. The number of vehicles refueling may increase depending on the tour schedule.

Sascha Grabowski plans to test new technologies for their practicality and cost-effectiveness in daily operation. The use of HVO 100 is just one such example, and it seems to be a promising step towards a more sustainable future.

Interestingly, Wuppertal appears to be the only German city explicitly mentioned in the search results as using HVO-100 as an environmentally friendly fuel for their street cleaning vehicles. While other cities may follow suit, for now, Wuppertal leads the way in demonstrating the practicality and benefits of using HVO 100 for street cleaning.

This cooperation between ESW and Remondis Rhein-Wupper is another example of well-functioning cooperation in Wuppertal, contributing to a cleaner, greener city for all its residents.
