Vattenfall Completes Germany's Largest Agri-PV Facility in Tützpatz
Vattenfall has completed the largest Agri-Photovoltaic facility in Germany, located in Tützpatz. With a capacity of 76 megawatts, it combines solar power generation with agriculture and livestock farming, covering 93 hectares. The project was realised without EEG subsidies and has a ten-year power purchase agreement with PASM.
The facility uses advanced bifacial 550-watt solar modules from GCL and string inverters from Sungrow. It was constructed in three phases, with 'Tützpatz 1' using classic modules and 'Tützpatz 2' and 'Tützpatz 3' utilising tracking systems for increased efficiency.
The project is expected to generate enough power to theoretically cover the annual demand of around 4,600 mobile base stations. A battery storage system with a capacity of 50.4 megawatts and 109 megawatt-hours is planned for 2027, further enhancing its reliability.
Vattenfall plans to expand its Agri-Photovoltaic portfolio, with more facilities in the pipeline. The company has concluded a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Power and Air Condition Solution Management GmbH (PASM) for the Tützpatz facility. A conventional four-year crop rotation is planned for agricultural use, alongside livestock farming with six mobile chicken houses housing up to 2,500 chickens each.
The Tützpatz Agri-Photovoltaic facility demonstrates Vattenfall's commitment to innovative, sustainable energy solutions. By combining solar power generation with agriculture and livestock farming, it maximises land use and contributes to Germany's renewable energy goals. With a planned battery storage system and further Agri-Photovoltaic projects in development, Vattenfall continues to push the boundaries of clean energy.
