Sea & Sea's Revolutionary Underwater Housing for Canon EOS R Transforms Photography

In a groundbreaking move, Sea & Sea has unveiled its innovative underwater housing for the Canon EOS R camera, adapting the already excellent camera for use in the world's harshest oceanic environments. This housing, which shares many similarities with the Sea Frogs compatible housing for Canon EOS R6 II, offers unparalleled features and customization options.

Size and Materials

Compared to the Sea & Sea underwater housing for the Canon 5D Mark IV, the EOS R housing is significantly larger and heavier. With dimensions of approximately 416 x 227.5 x 166.7 mm and a weight of 4.0 kg in air, the EOS R housing is almost twice as large in length and noticeably larger in width and height, with nearly double the weight. This difference is likely due to the modern design and materials used for mirrorless camera housings. The EOS R housing is made of aluminum alloy and glass, contrasting with the polycarbonate and ABS plastic, optical glass, and stainless steel used in the 5D Mark IV housing.

Key Features

The Sea & Sea EOS R housing boasts a clear window to view the camera's control panel, a port lock system, a lens-lock release button, and glow in the dark buttons for easy visibility in any diving conditions. It is also compatible with Sea & Sea's MDX port system, which is great for those transitioning from a Sea & Sea DSLR housing.

Customization is essential for the EOS R camera to be used underwater at full efficiency. The Q button can be set to display all useful underwater settings, including white balance, ISO, autofocus mode, and autofocus area selection. The up, left, right, and down control keys can be set to AF point selection for better control of autofocus point placement.

The housing also offers an optional vacuum valve to help create a vacuum seal and protect against floods, as well as 180-degree or 45-degree magnified external viewfinders for a better shooting experience. It is also compatible with Sea & Sea's optical YS converter for quick recycle times, low camera battery usage, and accurate TTL.

World's First Underwater Review

The world's first Canon EOS R underwater review was shot with the Sea & Sea EOS R underwater housing, showcasing its capabilities and potential in the underwater realm. The EOS R camera, with its minimalistic design and all controls being easy to access, makes it intuitive for the housing system.

Availability and Price

The Sea & Sea EOS R Housing is available now and has a U.S. MSRP of $3,495.95. With its superior underwater ergonomics, the quickest and most accurate autofocus, and the most customizability of any other full-frame mirrorless camera, the Sea & Sea EOS R Housing is a game-changer for underwater photography.
