U.S. Debut for WedoTV
After successfully establishing itself in Europe, the AVoD (Advertising-supported Video on Demand) and FAST (Free Ad-Supported Streaming Television) channel operator, wedotv, has made its debut in the US market.
On February 28, 2024, the company, which originally began operations in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, and has since expanded to the UK, announced its entry into the US market. The initial response to their offerings has been strong, particularly for their new channel, wedo amor.
Chris Sharp, co-CEO of wedotv, stated that telenovelas, a popular genre of Spanish-language soap operas, practically invented the concept of binge watching and have dedicated fans. The wedo amor channel, launched on Sling Freestream in March, features telenovelas from producer/distributor Big Media, with a library of over 7,000 hours of series. Titles included on wedo amor are Leonela, Cristal, La Dama de Rosa, Kassandra, Mi Gorda Bella, Mis Tres Hermanas, La Mujer de Judas, Angelica Pecado, and Juana La Virgen.
In addition to wedo amor, the wedo big stories FAST channel also launched on Intelsat's Galaxy 19 satellite, Sling Freestream, and Allen Media Group's Local Now. This channel focuses on outdoor survival, nature and science documentaries, and lifestyle programming.
Philipp Rotermund, co-CEO of wedotv, expressed confidence in serving audience sectors with high-quality, free-to-view offerings in the US market. He commented that wedotv's AVoD platform is now available on Comcast Xfinity set-top boxes and major US app stores, in addition to Sling Freestream and Local Now.
