Toyota Launches Woven City Challenge for Inventors and Startups

Toyota has launched the Woven City Challenge, inviting inventors and startups to test and develop their innovations in a unique, city-sized test course. The program aims to foster long-term partnerships, not just speed up startups' activities.

Woven City, the world's first and only city-sized test course, will serve as the venue for these trials. Residents will use the technologies daily, providing real-life feedback to the inventors. Selected participants will have free access to the city's facilities and services.

The challenge is open to startups and inventors founded within the past 15 years. Inventors must follow rules to maintain safety, trust, and quality in their trials. They can run demonstration trials up to 18 months using Woven City's assets and Toyota's expertise. The program aims to grow the ranks of 'Inventors' with a startup mindset.

Toyota has already confirmed 20 partners for the challenge, including enterprises, startups, entrepreneurs, and research institutions. Notably, singer-songwriter Naoto Inti Raymi has joined as the first artist inventor. These partners will collaborate with Toyota and Woven by Toyota to foster 'kakezan' (multiplication) innovation through their combined expertise.

Woven City is gearing up for the official launch of Phase 1, with functionality as a test course to be enhanced and expanded in future stages. Toyota seeks more partners for the Toyota Woven City Challenge - Hack the Mobility, aiming to find long-term collaborators rather than just accelerating startups' activities.
