The upcoming generation of Quad's electrostatic speakers promises a striking display of intricate detail and energetic performance.

Quad, a renowned name in the world of high-fidelity audio, has unveiled its latest offering - the Quad ESL 2812X and ESL 2912X electrostatic speakers. These new models mark a significant leap forward in Quad's iconic electrostatic speaker line, boasting numerous improvements that elevate both sound quality and aesthetic appeal.

Refined Electrostatic Panels for Enhanced Performance

The heart of these new speakers lies in the updated electrostatic panels. Refined for improved performance potential, these panels contribute to a noticeable increase in sound clarity and detail.

Modular Electronics Design for Optimised Performance and Reliability

Quad has moved away from a single PCB module in favour of a more sophisticated modular architecture. The ESL 2812X and ESL 2912X now incorporate three fully independent modules: a high-voltage multiplier, a control and protection module, and a low-voltage signal module. This modular design optimises performance and reliability.

Enhanced Transformers for Stability and Sonic Performance

New transformers have been introduced, contributing to a flatter frequency response extending beyond 18 kHz. This enhancement delivers greater airiness and extension in sound, improving overall stability and sonic performance.

Concentric Ring Electrode Design for Precise Stereo Imaging

Continuing the tradition of the ESL series, the new speakers feature a concentric ring electrode design. This design allows for more precise stereo imaging, ensuring a more immersive listening experience.

'Stealth' Aesthetic for a Modern Look

Visually, the new models adopt a matte black finish without wooden trims, giving them a modern, understated look. They also offer an optional LED halo lighting feature that creates a floating illusion by lighting the speaker bases from below, adding a touch of modern elegance.

Legacy and Pricing

The ESL 2812X and ESL 2912X draw on the legacy starting from the original ESL 57 of 1957. They are positioned as Quad’s best ESL speakers yet. The 2812X is priced around £10,999 / $14,995 / €13,999 / AU$25,000, with the ESL 2912X slightly more expensive at £12,999 / $17,995 / €16,999 / AU$27,500. Availability for both models is set to begin mid-August 2025.

Improved Transient and Dynamic Performance

Peter Comeau, Quad's Director of Acoustic Design, states that both new models offer improved transient and dynamic performance, setting a new standard for Quad's electrostatic speakers.

The new ESL speakers were previewed at the Bristol Hi-Fi Show earlier this year, generating much anticipation among audio enthusiasts. With their refined technology, sleek design, and unparalleled sound quality, the Quad ESL 2812X and ESL 2912X are poised to redefine the audio landscape.
