The iconic band, The Who, unveils an expansive edition of their album "Who Are You" featuring 71 previously unreleased songs.
The legendary rock band The Who is set to release a deluxe edition of their iconic album "Who Are You", offering fans an unprecedented look into the band's creative process. The deluxe edition, available for pre-order and set to be released on October 31, will be available in various formats, including quadruple vinyl, half-speed mastered black vinyl, yellow vinyl, double CD, and as a digital download. Bundle editions featuring merchandise are also available.
The deluxe edition promises a treasure trove of unreleased material, including 71 previously unheard tracks. Disc Four showcases early versions of well-known songs like "Who Are You", "The Kids Are Alright", and "I Saw Her Standing There", as well as deep cuts like "Drowned" and "Baba O'Riley". Disc Seven features live tracks from The Who's North American tour in 1979, including "Long Live Rock", "My Generation", and "Won't Get Fooled Again".
Disc Three and Five offer a glimpse into the band's studio sessions, featuring various versions of "Who Are You", "Love Is Coming Down", "Empty Glass", and "No Road Romance". These discs also include early run-throughs, session tracks, demos, and outtakes, providing a unique insight into the band's creative process.
The original, rejected Glyn Johns mix of "Who Are You" is also included in the deluxe edition, as well as drummer Kenny Jones' first rehearsals with the band. The stereo mix on the Blu-ray includes Steven Wilson's mix of several tracks, including "New Song" and "Who Are You". The Blu-ray also features Atmos and 5.1 mixes of these tracks.
The producer for the Deluxe Edition was a collaboration between Jon Astley, who remastered the original album, and Glyn Johns, whose initial mix was rejected by the band but is featured in the Deluxe Edition. The new Atmos and stereo mixes were created by Steven Wilson. Matt Kent has written sleeve notes for the deluxe edition, adding context to the wealth of unreleased material.
