Tesla's Model Y Arrives in India with Rapid Charging Solutions

Tesla's highly anticipated Model Y has made its debut in India, bringing with it a new era of electric vehicles (EVs) and a promise of swift charging solutions. The Model Y, Tesla's maiden offering for India, is equipped with a built-in navigation system that guides to the nearest Tesla Supercharging station, ensuring seamless travel for its owners.

The first Tesla Supercharging station in Mumbai, located at the Bandra-Kurla Complex, is now operational. This facility boasts four V4 supercharging stalls with DC fast chargers, each capable of a peak charging speed of 250 kW. This ultra-fast charging network has an uptime of 99.95%, ensuring minimal downtime for Tesla drivers.

The Model Y in India comes in two variants: Standard and Long Range. The Standard Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) Model Y, equipped with a 60kWh LFP battery, can gain about 238 km of range with just 15 minutes of Supercharging. The Long Range RWD variant can add around 267 km in the same time frame. These charging speeds are a significant improvement over slower destination or wall chargers, which typically provide around 11 kW power.

Tesla is prioritizing deliveries for Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, and Gurugram initially, followed by other parts of the country. The company is also planning to open eight new supercharging sites across India, with the second experience centre likely to be located in Delhi's Aerocity.

The charging process at these stations is convenient and easy, with the payment process available on the Tesla app on a smartphone. The cost of electricity for supercharging starts at ₹24 per kWh, and destination chargers will provide charging at ₹14 per kW.

The Model Y in India is also compatible with other fast charging stations, thanks to its CCS2 charging port. Tesla is currently accepting bookings for the Model Y from pan-India.

Deliveries of the Model Y are scheduled to start from September, and with these rapid charging solutions in place, Tesla owners in India can look forward to long-distance travel without the fear of running out of power. However, it's important to note that the charging speed may vary due to factors like the battery's state of charge and temperature.
