The electric vehicle revolution continues to gather momentum in India, with Tesla announcing the launch of its midsize SUV, the Model Y. The American automaker has already opened its first showroom in Mumbai and will inaugurate its second showroom in Delhi on August 11. Deliveries of the Model Y are expected to begin in the third quarter of 2025.
The Model Y will be available in six colour options, with Stealth Grey being the only one offered at no additional charge. Other colour options include Pearl White Multi-Coat, Diamond Black, Ultra Red, Quicksilver, and Glacier Blue, which will come at an extra cost.
The Model Y will be offered in two variants: Rear-Wheel Drive and Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive. The Rear-Wheel Drive variant is priced at INR 60 lakhs, while the Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive variant is priced at Rs 68 lakhs.
The Model Y's trunk offers hands-free power opening upon approach, adding a touch of convenience to daily commutes. The first row of seats in both variants features power recline, heating, and ventilation, ensuring a comfortable ride for passengers. The second row of seats offers power two-way folding and heating functions.
Tesla's focus on key urban markets like Delhi is evident, with the initial delivery batch prioritising cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, and Gurugram. The Model Y's connectivity is managed by second-generation hardware, ensuring seamless communication and updates.
For those seeking a more autonomous driving experience, Tesla offers its Full Self-Driving (FSD) package, which adds an additional cost of INR 6 lakhs over the base prices. The Model Y is equipped with eight exterior cameras, including a new front-facing camera, to enhance safety and autonomy.
The Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive (LR RWD) variant of the Model Y achieves 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds and can provide up to 267 kilometers of range within a 15-minute timeframe at its supercharging facility. The LR RWD variant has a more substantial range of 622 kilometers.
