Tesla Model Y Makes Its Debut in India
The highly anticipated Tesla Model Y has finally arrived in India, offering a premium electric midsize SUV experience at competitive prices. The Model Y is available in two main variants: the base Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and the Long Range RWD.
Key Features and Specifications
The Model Y comes equipped with a 15.4-inch front infotainment screen, an 8-inch rear display, power-adjustable front seats and steering column, dual-zone automatic climate control, 19-inch crossflow wheels, a fixed glass roof, acoustic glass, and a power rear liftgate. The exterior features flush door handles, slim headlamps, and an aerodynamic shape focused on practicality.
The base RWD Model Y offers a 60 kWh battery providing a WLTP range of 500 km, while the Long Range RWD version offers up to 622 km with its 75 kWh battery. The electric motor produces about 295 bhp (220 kW) with 420 Nm torque, enabling the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 5.9 seconds.
Pricing and Availability
The ex-showroom starting price is approximately Rs. 59.89 lakh for the base model and goes up to around Rs. 67.89 lakh for the Long Range variant. The Full Self-Driving (FSD) package is an optional extra costing about Rs. 6 lakh.
Tesla has started deliveries in select Indian cities with showrooms opening gradually across the country. The on-road price in major Indian cities like Delhi is higher, starting around Rs. 74 lakh and may vary with taxes and registration charges.
Additional Features and Future Updates
The Model Y will be available in 7 exterior colors and 2 interior trims in India. Over-the-air updates are planned for the Model Y's software as it evolves. The refreshed 2025 design improvements give it a modern and updated look, including a full-width light bar on front and rear, powered rear seats, improved suspension, and a new touchscreen for rear passengers.
It's important to note that the current features require active driver supervision, and the Model Y does not offer full autonomous driving capabilities at launch. However, the additional cost for full autonomous driving capabilities is Rs. 6 lakh.
