Subscription fees are enhanced by Spotify
Spotify, the leading music streaming platform, has announced an update to its Premium subscription pricing in various global regions, effective September 2025. The monthly fee will rise from €10.99 to €11.99 across Europe, Asia (South Asia and Asia-Pacific), Latin America, and Africa.
The €1 increase applies broadly to the affected regions, including South Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Latin America, and the Asia-Pacific region. This change translates to approximately $13.87 to $14 per month depending on exchange rates, significantly higher than the current U.S. price. However, the United States and Canada markets are not included in this increase at this time. U.S. subscribers will continue to pay $12 monthly for Premium.
Spotify has communicated that existing subscribers in these regions will receive email notices explaining the price change and its timing. The company has stated that the increase is to support continued innovation, improved product offerings, and feature development, even as the company faces advertising business challenges and seeks to expand revenue per subscriber.
The global user base of Spotify is 696 million, with 276 million paying subscribers. The platform offers additional subscription models for students, two users, and families, as well as a free, ad-supported version of its service.
This price increase marks the second time in nearly two years that Spotify has adjusted its Premium subscription rates. Despite the increase, the platform remains the leader in music streaming. Subscribers in the affected regions will receive notifications about the new prices.
The price increase, affecting regions such as South Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Latin America, and the Asia-Pacific region, is not only applicable to Spotify's business in music streaming but also aims to support advancements in technology, as the company continues to invest in innovation, product offerings, and feature development. This adjustment in finance, however, does not apply to US and Canadian markets, where Spotify subscribers will continue to pay $12 monthly for Premium.
