SpaceX Opens First Starlink Store in Bakersfield, California
SpaceX is set to open its first dedicated Starlink store in Bakersfield, California. The move signals a shift from online sales and retail partnerships to a more direct, in-person shopping experience for potential subscribers.
The new store, located in Bakersfield, a city of over 417,000 people around 120 miles north of SpaceX's headquarters, will offer hands-on product demonstrations and technical support. It will serve as a hub for information about Starlink plans and could also be a venue for selling future T-Mobile plans and devices, in addition to satellite dishes.
The Starlink Store Manager position, advertised in Bakersfield, suggests a focus on creating a branded, in-person shopping experience. The role requires knowledge of Starlink hardware and troubleshooting, with a competitive compensation package ranging from $95,000 to $115,000 annually plus bonuses. The manager will oversee a team of three to five employees and be responsible for maximizing store traffic and adoption rates.
SpaceX's expansion into physical retail stores indicates a growing confidence in Starlink's market potential. With the recent acquisition of $17 billion worth of radio spectrum from EchoStar, enabling the launch of Starlink-enabled mobile plans and devices, the company is poised to broaden its reach beyond fixed broadband.
