"Space Marine, the Warhammer 40,000 title, receives a long-awaited upgrade"
Get ready, Space Marines! After a year since its sequel dropped, the iconic Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine is back, this time modernized for today's gaming landscape. SneakyBox, the talented port developer, has given this third-person shooter a fresh lease of life in the form of the "Master Crafted Edition."
This upgraded version isn't just about sprucing up the graphics and tweaking the control scheme – it's a loving tribute to the game's past while ensuring it shines brightly for a new generation of players. Vaidas Mikelskas, the producer at SneakyBox, describes it as a "thoughtful restoration... a respectful dialogue between past and present, preserving what made the original special while making it shine for a new generation."
The Orks, those green, hulking creatures from the franchise, are getting a visual makeover too, aligning them better with their current aesthetic within the Warhammer 40k universe. Additionally, close to a hundred new voice lines have been added to the game.
Originally developed by Relic Entertainment and first released in 2011, the first Space Marine received generally positive reviews. Despite plans for two sequels, publisher THQ went under, and the series seemed lost until Sega acquired Relic in 2013 and re-released the game on PC in 2021.
Fast forward to 2024, and Saber Interactive began developing the sequel for publisher Focus Entertainment. That game, too, received strong reviews, with a follow-up in the works. Rights for the original Space Marine still belong to Sega, but as of now, there's no announcement about a PlayStation 5 version of the Master Crafted Edition. So, if you're eager to dive back into the Warhammer 40k universe, you'll have to do it on PC, Xbox Series X|S, or via Xbox Game Pass, on June 10, 2025.
