Siemens initiates autonomy for its Electromobility division: Pushing for self-reliance in the eMobility sector
Siemens, the German engineering conglomerate, has announced the acquisition of Heliox, a leading provider of DC fast-charging solutions for eBus and eTruck fleets. This move is part of Siemens' strategy to become a more agile and focused player in the dynamic electric vehicle (EV) market.
The business unit, with a strong technological foundation and expanding product portfolio, is set to build on Siemens' extensive investments and market expertise. Siemens eMobility currently offers IoT-enabled hardware, software, and services for both AC and DC charging, ranging from 11 kilowatts to 1 megawatt.
By 2022, Siemens had established a dedicated business unit for the electric mobility sector. The acquisition of Heliox strengthens Siemens' foothold in Europe and North America and enhances its capabilities in power electronics.
Matthias Rebellius, Member of the Managing Board of Siemens AG and CEO of Smart Infrastructure, stated that the new setup of eMobility will accelerate profitability. Rebellius adds that building up charging infrastructure for electric vehicles is crucial to achieving the electrification of transport, a key component in the goal to reach net zero by 2050.
The merger of Siemens' engineering experience with Heliox's innovative culture is a key component of this strategy. Once the carve-out is complete, Siemens eMobility and Heliox will operate within a dedicated legal structure.
The new setup of Siemens eMobility is expected to boost profitability by focusing on high-potential business segments and strategically relevant geographies. Siemens eMobility's product portfolio covers a wide range of applications, positioning the company well to foster new partnerships, expand sales channels, and tap into emerging end markets.
Siemens has production and R&D sites across Germany, Portugal, the United States, India, and the Netherlands. The company plans to leverage these resources to further develop its offerings and expand its global footprint.
With this acquisition, Siemens is making a significant stride towards its goal of becoming a major player in the EV charging infrastructure market. The company's focus on innovation, strategic partnerships, and geographical expansion is expected to drive growth and contribute to the electrification of transport.
