SCS Community Unveils OSISM 10.x for Enhanced AI Workload Support

SCS Community has unveiled OSISM 10.x, the latest version of their OpenStack distribution. This release brings enhanced support for AI workloads and improved hardware management.

OSISM 10.x extends support for passthrough PCI cards, enabling live migrations in more scenarios. This is particularly beneficial for AI workloads that require high-performance, low-latency access to specialized ace hardware.

The new version also improves hardware management, making it easier to configure new systems, especially network hardware. Additionally, OSISM now uses Ubuntu 24.04 LTS as its standard operating system. This switch provides better hardware support for graphics accelerators and offers current kernel features like eBPF support.

Under the hood, OSISM 10.x uses OpenStack 2025.1 ('Epoxy') on the virtualization layer. It also incorporates the latest versions of Kubernetes Cluster-API and OpenStack Cluster-API Provider. Furthermore, it uses Ceph 'Reef' version for storage.

SCS R9, which supports Kubernetes 1.33.x, brings improvements in scalability, token management, and pod handling. The SCS Community is actively working on more performance and usability enhancements.

Upgrades to OSISM 10.x should be smooth, even when jumping from older versions like 8.x. This new release offers enhanced support for AI workloads, improved hardware management, and up-to-date software versions, making it a significant update for users of the SCS Community's OpenStack distribution.
