Samsung Internet Browser Arrives on Microsoft Store, Brings Cross-Device Experience

Samsung has expanded its reach with the arrival of its Internet browser on the Microsoft Store, making it accessible on Windows devices. This move enables users to enjoy a consistent browsing experience across Samsung phones and Windows-based PCs, particularly Galaxy Books running Windows 11.

The browser shares a similar appearance with Google Chrome, featuring a star for saving a page, bookmarks, and a profile image circle in the top right corner. It also boasts a default dark mode and the option to move the address bar to the bottom of the screen, offering a slightly different layout from Chrome.

However, users trying to install the browser on Windows might face compatibility or performance issues. The browser, primarily designed for Android devices, requires Android 9 or higher. If the Windows version relies on an Android subsystem or emulation, installation or functionality challenges could occur, especially if the Windows environment or device does not fully support Android apps or if manual APK installation is needed.

In terms of popularity, Samsung Internet Browser holds a 4.4% market share of mobile browsers, according to StatCounter. It surpasses Opera and Firefox in mobile usage. Notably, the browser is based on Chromium, the same open-source project behind Google Chrome.

Attempts to download the browser using Chrome and Microsoft Edge browsers on Windows 10 and 11 resulted in error messages. However, tech blog 9to5Google reported that they were able to download and get the browser working, while other reviewers on the Microsoft Store page also experienced failed downloads.

One of the key selling points of Samsung Internet Browser is its focus on privacy protection. It comes with an ad blocker built-in and active by default, unlike Chrome on mobile. The browser is designed to offer a superior web browsing experience, aiming to provide a consistent, secure, and private browsing experience across devices.

Samsung has yet to comment on the reported issues with downloading the browser. Users are advised to verify device compatibility and official support status to avoid potential issues. The browser is compatible with Windows 10 and higher versions.
