Samsung's Galaxy Z trifold smartphone and Android XR headset release will occur this year
Samsung's Galaxy Z TriFold phone, the first Android XR device, is set to launch in October 2025, according to multiple sources[1][2][3][4]. The device, which will feature a dual-hinge design that folds inward, is expected to run Android XR and include advanced specifications such as the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chip, 16GB of RAM, and a camera similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 7, along with 25W fast charging[2][4].
The Galaxy Z TriFold will also feature two Micro OLED displays and built-in eye tracking technology[5]. It will be powered by an external battery pack[6]. Samsung's commitment to releasing the tri-fold phone by the end of 2025 is confirmed by its acting head of device experience, TM Roh[3].
In addition to the Galaxy Z TriFold, Samsung will also launch its Android XR headset, known as Project Moohan, as part of a strategic push before Apple's expected foldable iPhone release in late 2026[2][4]. Information about Project Moohan, previously teased by Samsung, is now being revealed.
Samsung has already launched several other products in 2025, including the Galaxy S25, Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, and Galaxy Watch 8[7]. The Galaxy S25 FE is also expected to arrive earlier than usual, likely in late August or early September[8].
The Galaxy Z TriFold will be a direct competitor to Apple's Vision Pro[9]. By releasing the tri-fold phone and Android XR headset, Samsung is showing its seriousness about its extended reality ambitions. The Galaxy Z TriFold and Project Moohan are expected to show up around the same time as the Galaxy S25 FE and Tab S11[10].
