Samsung is Developing a Network of Expert Hubs for Its Foldable Smartphones
For individuals hesitant to carry a foldable smartphone without a reliable safety net, some positive news is on the horizon. Samsung has teamed up with Asurion to transform existing uBreakiFix locations into specialized Samsung repair centers. By the end of 2023, Samsung anticipates equipping 50 stores across the U.S. with the necessary tools, equipment, inventory, and staff training to mend various Galaxy device categories.
Samsung and uBreakiFix have already launched five stores in three states: Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Orlando, and Los Angeles. According to Samsung's official announcement, these select stores were chosen based on "repair statistics," which demonstrate the number of customers with damaged devices and the proximity to a major metropolitan area.
These key shops will contribute to Samsung's research as it refines the repair process for its Galaxy devices and will assist in launching and testing new initiatives. uBreakiFix's "We Come to You" van repair service will also be accessible, making the repair process more hassle-free than confronting an overbooked Apple Genius Bar and scheduling an appointment.
As a dedicated Android user for years, I've long admired the iPhone user's ability to visit a physical location for assistance when their device encounters issues. Before Samsung introduced repair kits, your best option for getting help was to contact the manufacturer directly. I experienced this firsthand with Google's Pixel 3, having to send the broken device from California to Texas several years ago. It took about three weeks before I could use the phone again. It would have been so much more convenient if I could have dropped by a brick-and-mortar store for assistance the day the device broke.
These repair centers won't be exclusive to Samsung's smartphones. They'll also cater to mending damaged wearables, such as the Galaxy Watches, Galaxy Buds, and even Samsung's Chromebooks and PCs. Moreover, you can have your foldable device serviced in case the protective layer starts peeling off or the screen becomes slightly cracked. Given the high cost of devices like the Galaxy Fold 5, which starts at a hefty $1,800, it's essential to have a repair service readily available.
The collaboration between Samsung and uBreakiFix aims to leverage technology to enhance future device repairs, ensuring a seamless experience for customers. With the expansion of these specialized repair centers, Samsung is positioning itself at the forefront of tech-driven repair solutions.
