Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Revisit After a Year: A Single Motivation Behind My Continued Preference

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, the successor to the Galaxy Z Fold 6, is set to bring a host of significant improvements and new features. Here's what we can expect from the upcoming foldable phone:

## Expected Improvements and Features

### Design and Build

The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is rumoured to boast a slimmer profile, potentially measuring just 8.2mm thick when closed, compared to the 12.1mm of the Fold 6. It is also expected to retain flat edges and a familiar hinge design, with IP48 water and dust resistance for added durability.

### Displays

The inner display of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is anticipated to increase from 7.6 inches to 8 inches, while the outer cover display is expected to grow from 6.3 inches to 6.5 inches. Improvements are also expected to reduce the crease on the main display, enhancing both aesthetics and durability. Additionally, the displays should offer better brightness and colour accuracy for an improved visual experience.

### Camera System

The Galaxy Z Fold 7 will feature a 200 MP main camera sensor, similar to the Galaxy S25 Ultra, promising superior image quality. It is also expected to switch from an under-display camera to a punch-hole camera on the inner display, potentially improving selfie quality. New software features will provide smarter camera suggestions and optimized settings for different scenarios.

### Performance

The Fold 7 is likely to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, which should offer better performance compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in the Fold 6.

While the Galaxy Z Fold 6 has been the primary or secondary phone for many users for a good chunk of the past year, its battery life has been a point of contention. With a 4,400mAh battery, it has a shorter lifespan compared to other recent foldable phones like the Vivo X Fold 5 (6,000mAh) and the Find N5 (5,600mAh).

Despite this, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 has proven useful for various tasks, such as doom-scrolling, replying to messages, sketching, and jotting down notes. Users have also found the multi-tasking implementation on the Fold 6 to be superior, allowing for more than two or three apps to appear on the screen and easily swapping them out.

With the arrival of the Galaxy Z Fold 7, users are eagerly awaiting improvements to the hardware issues and a true flagship experience. The author, for one, is hopeful that the Fold 7 will have new changes, possibly retaining S Pen compatibility and offering improved internals. They are also looking forward to a nearly no-compromise foldable phone that gives a true flagship experience.
