Samsung Faces Delays in Rolling Out Android 15 Upgrade
In the world of smartphones, Samsung's latest update, One UI 7, based on Android 15, has encountered some unexpected hurdles. The rollout, initially planned for the Galaxy S24 series, Z Fold 6, and Z Flip 6, has been delayed due to a combination of unforeseen issues and Samsung's busy schedule.
The global rollout, which commenced in April 2025, was paused shortly after due to technical problems and performance issues that needed addressing before continuing. To ensure a stable and polished final product, Samsung temporarily halted the update and focused on extended testing.
One of the key reasons for the delay was the intensive testing phase for One UI 7 beta 4 on S24 phones. This rigorous testing aimed to address bugs comprehensively and improve stability and fluidity, leading to stretched rollout timelines.
Moreover, Samsung's focus on launching the Galaxy S25 series and new foldables (Fold 7, Flip 7) running on newer One UI 8 may have also contributed to the delay. By prioritising these new devices, attention was diverted from the stable releases of One UI 7 for older flagships, potentially to avoid overshadowing the new devices and ensure One UI 8 launches smoothly.
Furthermore, the latest beta builds hinted at feature removals or adjustments, indicating Samsung was refining the software carefully, which also contributed to the delays.
As of late July 2025, the One UI 7 rollout is nearly complete, with only a few budget models awaiting update. Samsung has shifted its focus to One UI 8, which will debut on newer devices and is currently in beta testing for the Galaxy S25 series, with a stable release expected soon.
Unfortunately, this delay means that Samsung's devices will miss out on features that are already in Android 16's third public beta, which is about two months away. Issues such as the Secure Folder issue and trouble unlocking devices for South Korean users have not been addressed yet.
In a statement to Gizmodo, Samsung indicated that the rollout schedule for One UI 7 is being updated to ensure the best possible user experience. The new timing and availability for the One UI 7 update will be shared shortly by Samsung.
While Android's fragmentation and flakiness have historically offered opportunities for competitors like Apple, Google has been working more closely with its partners to improve Android's consistency. However, issues related to fragmentation still persist.
Despite these challenges, Samsung and Google continue to strive for improved AI integration on the platform. The Galaxy S24 series, Z Fold 6, and Z Flip 6 are still expected to get the One UI 7 update, although the rollout has been delayed.
