Restyled Suzuki Jimny Debuts with Fresh Features in New South Wales
The Suzuki Jimny, a compact 4x4 vehicle, has been given a unique makeover and a new role as a community engagement tool. Affectionately dubbed 'Sergeant Jim', this five-door model has been adopted by various Australian law enforcement agencies to help bridge the gap between the police and the community.
The Australian Federal Police (AFP) is set to unveil Sergeant Jim at the AFP Charity Golf Day at the end of September. Meanwhile, the NSW Police Crime Prevention Unit in Lake Macquarie, one of the largest population centres in the region, located approximately 150km north of Sydney, has also added a Suzuki Jimny to its fleet.
Sergeant Jim's bright police livery ensures it stands out in Lake Macquarie. With its rugged looks and approachable vibe, it is ideal for employee engagement activities such as school visits and local events. The vehicle's livery is intended to make community members, particularly younger people, more comfortable approaching their local police.
Under the hood, Sergeant Jim is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine, producing 75kW and 130Nm of power and torque, respectively. Despite its modest specifications, it is not designed for high-speed pursuits. Instead, it is intended to be a silent and unobtrusive presence in the community.
Sergeant Jim does not have a manual transmission; it features a four-speed automatic transmission, making it easy to drive and manoeuvre in tight spaces. This compact 4WD is not capable of keeping up with highway patrol units, but it is expected to draw a crowd at the next school visit, serving as a conversation starter for community members.
The addition of Sergeant Jim to the police fleets is part of a broader initiative to improve community engagement and build trust. As Sergeant Jim makes its rounds in various communities, it is hoped that it will help foster a closer relationship between the police and the public, making communities safer and more inclusive for everyone.
