Renault's new Clio model to make its first appearance at the Munich show before its anticipated 2026 release.

Renault's New Clio Goes Fully Hybrid

The sixth-generation Renault Clio is set to make a significant impact in the European automotive market, as the French carmaker announces a shift to hybrid-only powertrains. This bold move marks a departure from traditional combustion engines and positions the new Clio as a leader in sustainable mobility.

Hybrid-Only Powertrain

The new Clio will bid farewell to pure petrol engines, instead opting for an evolution of the existing E-Tech hybrid system. This powertrain combination includes an atmospheric four-cylinder engine paired with two electric motors, generating a combined output of approximately 143bhp and 151lb ft of torque. This hybrid-only approach is driven by the need to meet stringent EU emissions targets, which require manufacturers to reduce average CO2 emissions to 93.6g/km from the upcoming year.

Design and Technology Upgrades

The sixth-generation Clio sports a fresh look, featuring a more prominent front nose and distinctive twin-decked lip rear spoilers. Inside, the cabin moves towards a more upscale and tech-forward design, with a large 10.4-inch vertical touchscreen running the new OpenR Link infotainment system built on Google's Android Automotive OS. This provides native apps like Google Maps, Assistant, and Play Store access. The digital instrument cluster is fully customizable, while material quality has been improved with soft-touch surfaces, ambient lighting, and eco-friendly upholstery. Rear legroom and headroom remain generous for the supermini segment, enhancing comfort for small families.

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems

The car includes advanced driver assistance systems such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring, pushing it towards a more premium, safety-conscious market position.

A New Era for Renault

The sixth-generation Renault Clio represents one of the biggest overhauls in generations for the iconic supermini, positioning it as a leader in the hybrid-electric market. Renault has revealed a new model at every European motor show since the pandemic, and the new Clio is expected to debut at the Munich motor show imminently. While Renault has not confirmed a precise reveal date, they have announced a 'pre-show' unveiling for 8 September in Munich. The new Clio is set to go on sale early next year.
