🛋🏙️ Höhr-Grenzhausen's Barrier-Free Stele Path: A Digital Discovery

🗓️ May 2025 - The art of ceramics in Höhr-Grenzhausen ain't no secret, homeslice! Been around since forever, but in 2018, it got real colorful in the cityscape. Introducing the Stele Path, a unique, circular route, that highlights the creativity and diversity of local ceramics, available year-round! And since this year, it's fully barrier-free, got QR codes, and is optimized for your smartphone.

💡 Cue the idea: back in 2017, the gang over at the ceramics workshops wanted a permanent, artistic home in the cityscape, and voila, the Stele Path was born. Now, you've got 58 uniquely designed ceramic objects standing tall on wooden steles, from contemporary spins to traditional vibes. New addition: all signs on the steles got revamped, equipped with a QR code. Scan 'em, and voilà, information about that particular stele magically pops up on yer phone. Special shoutout to barrier-free access: the texts are now available as an audio file, too, making the Stele Path a more inclusive experience for visually impaired folks.

🎨 Each artist was free to design their piece, but it had to fit on the square base of the stele. Result: a mesmerizing diversity in ceramic art in Höhr-Grenzhausen—an open invitation to creativity and exploration. Some steles even showcase works from past workshops, keeping their history alive.

🏃‍♀️🚶‍♂️ Start your journey at the Keramik Museum Westerwald at Lindenstraße 13. From there, the path, roughly 2km long, winds through Grenzhausen, where most of the steles are located. Almost always, there's a clear line of sight between at least two steles. All steles stand at the same height, but they appear independent due to their different designs. Two additional routes in Höhr offer further opportunities for exploration: one within the city park, and the other through the idyllic nature around Höhr-Grenzhausen.

📐 A digital version of the flyer is now accessible via the QR codes, available in printed form at the tourist info in the Keramik Museum Westerwald, the town hall of Höhr-Grenzhausen, and many ceramic workshops.
