In a recent development, several Tesla Cybertruck owners have reported experiencing localized corrosion and rust spots on their vehicles after applying magnetic decals to the stainless steel surface.

Wes Fisher, a Cybertruck owner from Ohio, shared his story on the "Cybertruck Owners Only" group on Facebook. He attached a magnetic decal to his Cybertruck and noticed rusty spots on the stainless steel where the magnets were attached. Wes's post includes five pictures, the first showing a magnetic decal on his Cybertruck, and the remaining four showing rusty spots after the decal was removed.

Jenia Craighead, a fifth Cybertruck owner, shares a similar experience. She states that magnets can cause corrosion and might require resurfacing the entire truck. Another owner, Anna Schwind, has experienced the same magnet-associated corrosion on her truck. Justin West, another Cybertruck owner, has also encountered this issue.

The incident suggests that the magnetic decal may have caused a corrosive reaction, possibly due to trapped moisture or damage to the protective oxide layer that normally prevents stainless steel from rusting. The rest of the Cybertruck's stainless steel body showed no signs of corrosion, indicating the effect was localized and not a general material failure.

Robert Baze, another Cybertruck owner, has also experienced this corrosion and is scheduling a service appointment with Tesla to have his door replaced under warranty. Wes is concerned that he may have permanently damaged his Cybertruck's stainless steel.

Tinsae Aregay, who covers everything about Tesla, has been following the evolution of the EV space daily for several years. He suggests that Tesla should issue a warning about the dangers of magnets corroding the truck's stainless steel.

If you own a Tesla Cybertruck and plan to use magnetic decals, it's essential to consider the potential risks. Cleaning suggestions include scrubbing with water and a mild abrasive before wrapping the vehicle, but permanent damage is possible.
