Nvidia's AI-driven characters are poised to revolutionize the way video games are experienced

In the world of gaming, artificial intelligence is taking a significant leap forward, thanks to Nvidia's ACE (Artificial Creature Engine) AI. This innovative technology is set to revolutionise the gaming industry, as it powers game characters with higher levels of artificial intelligence, real-time facial animations, and even the ability to respond to player input in a more realistic and intelligent manner.

One of the first games to adopt this groundbreaking technology is Krafton's life simulation game, InZOI, which is set to launch in early access on March 28 at 00:00 UTC. InZOI introduces 'Smart Zois', NPCs that can be transformed into autonomous game characters with enhanced artificial intelligence. This experimental setting is available exclusively to gamers with GeForce RTX GPUs.

These Smart Zois are not just AI-powered characters; they can perform a variety of tasks, such as providing directions to lost characters or even adapting and responding more realistically to their environment based on their personalities. Moreover, players will be able to observe their Smart Zoi's inner thoughts in real-time as they go about their day and influence them directly with a free-form text input.

Another game set to leverage the power of ACE is the 3D anime-style, hero-based tactical shooter, Fate Trigger, developed by Saroasis Studios. Fate Trigger, built on Unreal Engine 5, uses ACE's Audio2Face-3D to generate real-time facial animations and lip-sync for all dialogue.

The ACE technology is also set to make an appearance in the mobile version of 24 Entertainment's Naraka: Bladepoint, starting from March 27. Here, ACE-powered teammates will assist players in battling enemies and hunting for loot.

The application of AI in video games, as demonstrated by Nvidia's ACE AI, has the potential to change how games are conceived, making them potentially richer and more surprising. As more developers explore the possibilities offered by ACE, we can expect to see AI characters becoming a common feature in games.

Nvidia ACE is a suite of RTX-accelerated digital human technologies that enhances game characters with generative AI. The technology continues to advance, incorporating new vision and audio language models, and enhancing facial animation with new model architectures.

Two more upcoming games confirmed to use Nvidia ACE technology are Borderlands 4 and The Oversight Bureau. Borderlands 4 was highlighted at Gamescom 2025 as being optimised with DLSS 4 and Nvidia ACE technology, while The Oversight Bureau showcases Nvidia ACE-powered smart NPCs responding realistically to player input.

The debut of Nvidia's ACE AI game characters is not limited to InZOI and Naraka: Bladepoint Mobile. Sony is reportedly testing an AI-generated Aloy in Horizon Forbidden West, and more developers are expected to follow Nvidia's lead in implementing AI characters in their games.

In Black Vultures: Prey of Greed, ACE will power an in-game AI companion, adding another layer of immersion to this anticipated release. With these advancements, the future of gaming is undeniably AI-driven, and Nvidia's ACE AI is leading the charge.
