Nio's Firefly model hits its 10,000th delivery, introduces European shipments imminently.
NIO's Firefly Electric Vehicle Makes European Debut on August 14
Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer NIO Inc has announced that it will begin delivering its entry-level sub-brand, the Firefly, in Europe on August 14, 2025. The company will start with customers in Norway and the Netherlands, with plans to expand to other European countries throughout 2025 and 2026.
The Firefly, which competes with cars like the MINI and Smart, was launched in China at the end of 2024. Despite initially planning to launch in Europe first, higher tariffs forced a change in strategy. The Firefly reached 10,000 deliveries in just 97 days after its launch in China, with deliveries starting in late April 2025.
In the two months since its launch, Firefly has delivered 7,843 units. In April, 231 units were delivered, followed by 3,932 units in June and 3,680 units in May. The 10,000th Firefly was delivered today.
The Firefly offers two trims with starting prices of RMB 119,800 and RMB 125,800, including the battery pack. To make the vehicle more affordable, NIO introduced a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) option on June 24, lowering the purchase threshold to RMB 79,800. However, consumers will need to pay a monthly battery rental fee of RMB 399.
Nio has partnered with HERE Technologies for overseas map data to ensure smooth navigation for Firefly drivers in Europe. The right-hand drive version of the Firefly is set to be ready by October at the latest, supporting further market expansion.
Deliveries of Firefly in Europe will begin soon, following a 15-day road test in Europe in preparation for market entry. NIO co-founder and president, Qin Lihong, stated that Firefly would launch in Europe between June and August.
This entry into Europe follows a shift from direct sales to a national general agency (distributor) model. By the end of this year, Firefly will enter about 20 overseas markets. The Firefly, which was officially launched on April 19, has already made a significant impact in China and is poised to do the same in Europe.
