Nio Onvo now offers smaller 60-kWh battery pack option for L90 customers
The Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, Nio Onvo, has introduced a new battery option for its flagship electric SUV, the L90. The introduction of the 60-kWh battery pack offers a more affordable choice for customers, particularly those with urban commuting needs and home charging.
The L90 comes standard with an 85-kWh battery pack, but Onvo has now made a smaller 60-kWh battery pack available. This smaller battery pack is directly accessible for new buyers of the L90, offering a starting price of RMB 265,800 (approximately $36,500 USD) including the battery pack. For customers who prefer the smaller battery pack, they will need to contact sales representatives after locking their orders to adjust the battery pack option.
Under the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) rental plan, the 60-kWh battery pack option is exclusive. The monthly rental fee for the 60-kWh battery pack is RMB 599 ($83), representing a 33.37% reduction compared to the 85-kWh battery pack rental fee of RMB 899 (about $125).
For those who choose the BaaS plan, permanently downgrading to the 60-kWh battery pack reduces the monthly rental fee from RMB 899 to RMB 599. However, it's important to note that the permanent downgrade option is not available for L90 customers who purchased their vehicles with the battery pack included.
Regarding upgrading or downgrading battery options under the BaaS plan, customers who initially choose the 60-kWh battery can upgrade to the 85-kWh pack after delivery. The upgrade costs are RMB 45 (about $6) per day, RMB 800 ($111) per month, or RMB 8,800 ($1,225) per year. If customers choose a permanent upgrade, they may need to pay a service fee of RMB 1 yuan if they upgrade within one year of delivery.
Nio Onvo launched the L90 on July 31 and began deliveries on August 1. The company aims to deliver over 10,000 L90s in August. Customers who purchased their vehicles under the BaaS plan can use Onvo's battery sharing service.
With its extensive nationwide battery swap network (3,400 stations), Nio’s BaaS plan provides flexibility, supporting battery swaps and upgrades to meet user needs. This makes the L90 an attractive option for those seeking an electric SUV with a cost-effective battery option and the convenience of a battery swap network.
