Night Flight Training in Sankt Augustin-Hangelar: Expect Increased Noise from October to December

From October 6, 2025, to December 19, 2025, the police flight school in Sankt Augustin-Hangelar will host night flight training. This may cause increased flights and noise disturbances in certain areas from Monday to Thursday, between 6 PM and 10 PM. The Federal Police Aviation Group, the second-largest operator of civil aircraft in Germany after Lufthansa, will conduct the training.

The night flight training is mandatory for licensing pilots in Germany according to EASA regulations, such as LAPL or PPL. It is crucial for safely performing various tasks at night, including searching for missing persons, pursuing criminals, assisting in major disasters and accidents, or patrolling to protect citizens. The training will not take place on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

The flight school in Sankt Augustin-Hangelar is traditionally connected to the Hochschule für Polizei und öffentliche Verwaltung (HSPV NRW) and the Bundespolizei. It often conducts specialized training like night flight modules within the official police training or in cooperation with external flight schools.

The night flight training in Sankt Augustin-Hangelar is legally required for pilot licensing and necessary for safe night operations. It supports the daily tasks of the Federal Police, particularly border, rail, and sea surveillance. The training will not affect weekends, ensuring the regular provision of air transport capacity for federal police rapid response units.
