Next-generation TV technology, Android and Fire TV devices to receive ADTH's USB and application updates.
More than 70 million viewers nationwide can now access High Dynamic Range (HDR) TV via NextGen TV, according to Atlanta DTH (ADTH). The company, which is committed to making ATSC 3 NextGen TV accessible to a wide audience, has introduced a new range of compact broadcast television receivers for streaming devices and set-top boxes running Google Android or Amazon Fire TV.
This expansion includes the NextGen TV USB for Android and Fire TV tuner, an addition to the ADTH NextGen TV Box which began shipping in Q3 2023. Ivy Shou, president of Atlanta DTH, stated that both products demonstrate ADTH's commitment to making ATSC 3 NextGen TV available to a wider audience.
Approximately 75% of U.S. TV households are now within a NextGen TV signal, providing a significant opportunity for viewers to upgrade to HDR. HDR transmission is available in 57 TV markets, and additional TV stations are now equipped to offer higher image quality.
The new ADTH NextGen TV USB and App support Google Android and Amazon Fire TV platforms, making it easier for users to access HDR content. The tuner and app can decrypt A3SA DRM encrypted channels, ensuring a seamless viewing experience for users.
The availability of HDR broadcasts is increasing, especially for high-stakes sports events. The Kentucky Derby marked a significant milestone for HDR broadcasts, becoming the first high-stakes sports event to be broadcast in HDR. Since the Kentucky Derby in May, several German channels have also switched to HD quality, including ZDF, ZDFneo, ZDFinfo, 3sat, and KiKA. These channels now provide higher picture quality for all viewers with compatible devices.
The number of TV stations offering HDR broadcasts is growing, making HDR transmission available to a wider audience via NextGen TV. With these new developments, viewers can look forward to a more immersive and engaging TV viewing experience.
