Newfoundland Power Qualifies for Final Selection of Green Energy Project

Newfoundland and Labrador's energy landscape is set for a green transformation. Newfoundland Power has qualified for the final selection of the Green Energy Project on the Burin Peninsula. EverWind, North America's leading independent green hydrogen developer, is spearheading this ambitious project, which aims to convert renewable power into green hydrogen and ammonia for global transportation and use as a clean energy source and fertilizer.

EverWind, led by Trent Vichie, former Blackstone Partner and co-founder of Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners, is advancing the project with a team of over 20 members from infrastructure, renewable power, and utility companies. The project is one of the most advanced in the province, with pre-FEED engineering completed and strategic private land already acquired. Environmental data collection has been ongoing since November 2022.

EverWind is launching a MET tower program, with six towers to be erected on the Burin Peninsula by early fall. Live wind data collection is expected to start in early August. The community has shown significant support for this program, with the full backing of the Burin Peninsula Energy Board and local communities. EverWind Fuels has also been shortlisted for the leasing of Crown land to develop its $8 billion green fuels project on the Burin Peninsula. The project has received its first environmental assessment approval, a significant milestone for large-scale green hydrogen projects in North America.

EverWind is attracting large off-takers interested in purchasing green fuels produced in Newfoundland and Labrador. The project aims to provide a clean energy source and fertilizer, contributing to global transportation and agriculture sectors.

EverWind's CEO Trent Vichie welcomed the news, expressing gratitude towards the government, community leaders, and the Burin Peninsula Energy Board for their support. With Newfoundland Power qualifying for the final selection, the Green Energy Project on the Burin Peninsula is poised to become a reality, marking a significant step towards a greener future for Newfoundland and Labrador.
