Microsoft Warns of 48-Hour Hybrid Security Disruption on September 16
Microsoft has announced a temporary disruption to shared security principal use for hybrid customers on September 16, 2025. The 48-hour block will affect organizations with both on-premises and Exchange Online user mailboxes not updated to the April 2025 Hybrid Update and not using the dedicated Exchange hybrid app in their app store.
Organizations can avoid this disruption by enabling the dedicated Exchange hybrid app in their app store. The temporary block will last from 7 AM GMT on September 16, 2025, to 7 AM GMT on September 18, 2025. During this period, users with Exchange on-premises mailboxes may not see free/busy information, MailTips, or profile picture sharing with Exchange Online users.
Microsoft advises hybrid customers to update to the April 2025 Hybrid Update and enable the dedicated Exchange hybrid app in their app store to avoid any disruption. The temporary block aims to enhance security and improve hybrid connectivity.
