Mexico's Leading Virtual Production Studio Embraces Brompton Technology
Advancing Virtual Production in Mexico City: Simplemente's Immersive LED Stage
Simplemente, a pioneering force in the Pro AV industry, has taken a significant step forward in virtual production technology with their 200-square-meter LED volume stage based at Estudios Churubusco in Mexico City. This cutting-edge setup is transforming traditional filming by integrating live-action footage with digitally rendered backgrounds on LED screens, rather than green screens.
The LED stage, a 2,153-square-foot (270-degree) immersive design, is powered by Brompton Technology's eight Tessera SX40 LED video processors. These processors, renowned for delivering exceptional color accuracy, have been instrumental in Simplemente's testing phase. They also allow for live color grading on the wall using 3D LUT, a huge creative benefit for filmmakers.
The stage's main attraction are the AOTO RM 2.3mm LED panels, offering a total resolution of 14252x2582. This resolution is almost five times that of a 4K screen, ensuring stunningly realistic lighting and reflections on actors and objects.
Adam Callaway, global lead for virtual production and broadcast at Brompton Technology, has expressed excitement about supporting Simplemente in bringing top-tier virtual production to the Mexican market. The integration from the art department and set builders to extend the volume with physical set pieces adds to the realism of the productions.
Simplemente's LED stage has been a resource for the broader filmmaking community, offering services from prestige television to educational training to commercials. Notable productions filmed on the stage include Mexico's second presidential debate, which drew a record-breaking 16-plus million viewers, and the innovative reality game show series Desafío India Club Cinépolis for theater chain Cinépolis.
Recently, Simplemente wrapped shooting two seasons back-to-back of the upcoming Amazon Prime original series Cada Minuto Cuenta (Every Minute Counts). This drama series, set to premiere in late 2024, centers on the catastrophic 1985 earthquake that struck Mexico City, and the subsequent rescue attempts and survival stories.
The democratization of virtual production has been rewarding for Simplemente, enabling various people to try virtual production for the first time. The volume at Simplemente's LED stage has inspired the film crew and actors, helping them to feel like they are in the environment and enhancing their creative process.
Simplemente, founded by Mónica Reina and Rune Hansen in 2000, has a history of adopting Pro AV technology, including digital film, live streaming, VR, and virtual production. They continue to push the boundaries of what is possible in the realm of virtual production, offering production services, integration, training, and rentals to clients ranging from independent artists to production houses, film schools, and major television networks across Mexico and Latin America.
The immersive LED stage at Simplemente, a Pro AV industry leader, features technology that integrates live-action footage with digitally rendered backgrounds on LED screens, revolutionizing traditional filming. This entertainment-focused technology, spearheaded by Brompton Technology's processors and AOTO RM 2.3mm LED panels, offers stunning visuals and near-5x resolution of a 4K screen, fostering a highly realistic lifestyle for film productions.
