Meta unveils revamped Ray-Ban and Oakley eyewear, boasting double battery life.
New Smart Glasses from Meta and Oakley: Enhanced Features and Improved Performance
Meta and Oakley have announced updates to their line of smart glasses, offering improved features and performance for Gen Z users.
The Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses (Gen 2) and Oakley smart glasses are now equipped with a partnership for data overlay with both Garmin and Strava, allowing for automatic video recording with speed and distance stats overlaid. The Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses (Gen 2) also support 3K Ultra HD video recording and can capture UHD video at 60 fps.
The Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses (Gen 2) and Oakley smart glasses have not seen any changes in battery efficiency, charging times, or video recording capabilities. However, the Oakley Meta Vanguard smart glasses will be available for purchase starting on October 21, with a performance-focused model priced at $499.
The Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses (Gen 2) boast increased battery efficiency, providing up to 8 hours of usage and charging up to 50% in nearly 20 minutes. The charging case for the Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses (Gen 2) extends the per-charge usage to 48 hours.
The next generations of Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses include the Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) with double battery life (8 hours), a more powerful camera, and a price of $379. The Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) will also be available for pre-order at a starting price of $379 USD.
In addition to these updates, the Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) and Oakley Meta Vanguard smart glasses are now available for pre-order. The Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses (Gen 2) offer Hyperlapse and slow-motion video capture capabilities, and will receive a software update to support Conversation focus, which focuses on the speaker's voice while suppressing background noise. This feature will also be available on the Meta's older Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta HSTN glasses.
The new Oakley smart glasses feature IP67-tier protection for dust and water exposure, ensuring durability for outdoor activities. The Oakley Meta Vanguard model is aimed at extreme sports, offering 3K video camera, up to 9 hours battery, Garmin fitness watch compatibility, and a button for helmet users.
Lastly, the live translation system in Meta's smart glasses is adding support for German and Portuguese, allowing for back-and-forth conversations between six languages even in airplane mode. This feature is sure to be a valuable addition for travellers and those who communicate with people from diverse linguistic backgrounds.
