M&A specialist Iqbal Khan, known as the Rainmaker at SAM, departs with a team of 20 to join JSA
Iqbal Khan, a renowned M&A lawyer, has recently joined J. Sagar Associates (JSA), bolstering the firm's corporate and M&A practice. Khan's move, accompanied by a strong team, has been a significant addition to JSA's roster.
Khan's M&A vertical is highly sought-after in the market, and he has represented top conglomerates, sovereign wealth funds, and private equity giants like TPG, Bain Capital, Brookfield, Advent, Apax, and KKR in various deals. His expertise has been instrumental in high-profile transactions such as the $8.5 billion mega-merger of Reliance Industries' media division Viacom18 with Walt Disney's Star India.
In addition to Khan, the team at JSA includes Ambarish, Tanavi Mohanty, Ashid Basheer, and Devika Menon. This team has also been instrumental in guiding TPG on its sale of some shareholding in Quality Care India to Blackstone.
JSA's recent hiring spree includes the addition of a four-member disputes team from Krishnamurthy & Co (K Law) and the recruitment of former Trilegal counsel Anurag Shrivastav in Mumbai. The firm has also welcomed partners Brijita Prakash, Santosh Vijay, and Rakesh Warrier in Bengaluru, and Harshavardhan Abburi in Hyderabad.
JSA operates on a meritocratic setup, ensuring that partners across the equity spectrum are heard and involved in the running of the firm. This democratic approach is expected to further propel the growth of the firm's already strong PE & M&A practice, making JSA's M&A vertical one of the finest in the country.
While there is no detailed public record of specific key M&A deals Khan has handled at JSA since his move, it is confirmed that he joined JSA from Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co along with another partner and a team of around 20 lawyers. Prior to his move, Khan was a partner involved in corporate, M&A, and private equity work at Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co.
With Khan at the helm, JSA's national corporate/ M&A practice is poised for significant growth and success in the coming years.
In the finance and business world, Iqbal Khan's expertise in technology-driven M&A deals, particularly with top conglomerates, has significantly boosted JSA's corporate and M&A practice, making their M&A vertical one of the finest in the country. As JSA continues to grow, with the addition of partners and teams specializing in disputes and private equity, it's anticipated that their M&A practice will continue to achieve enormous success in the near future.
