LuLu Group Launches Ambitious Solar Initiative in Dubai

LuLu Group, a prominent retail chain, has taken a significant step towards sustainability by launching a solar energy initiative in Dubai. In partnership with Positive Zero, the group is installing solar panels on the rooftops of five key facilities, aiming to reduce carbon emissions and lower operating costs.

The project, handled as a complete turnkey service by Positive Zero, involves solar plant installations on the rooftops of LuLu Hypermarkets in Al Warqa, Rashidiya, Dubai Investments Park (DIP), the LuLu Central Logistics hub in DIP, and the Regional Office in Al Qusais. This initiative is expected to prevent the release of over 25,000 metric tons of carbon emissions into the atmosphere.

David Auriau, CEO of Positive Zero, praised LuLu Group's commitment to sustainability and the potential of clean energy in the retail sector. LuLu Group's Director of Global Operations, Salim M.A, echoed this sentiment, stating that sustainability is at the core of their operations and this initiative aligns with the UAE's national goals for a greener future. The solar plants are expected to generate more than 37 million kilowatt-hours of clean energy over the course of the lease, making it one of the most ambitious renewable energy deployments in the UAE retail sector.

LuLu Group and Positive Zero, who have been collaborating since 2020, are planning additional projects for expansion, in cooperation with Sembcorp Industries, to provide regenerative energy for more hypermarkets, logistics, and offices. This solar initiative is not only a step towards sustainability but also a demonstration of how the retail sector can support the UAE's clean energy transition.
