Leipzig City and OXG seal a strategic partnership agreement for fiber optics
In a significant move towards improving digital infrastructure and supporting economic growth, OXG Fiber has partnered with the City of Leipzig to expand its Fiber To The Home (FTTH) network. The partnership aims to connect approximately 20,000 households with high-speed fiber optic internet over the next few years.
The rollout, which has already begun with initial phases underway, targets significant coverage increases by 2024-2025. Residents interested in getting connected will typically pay a one-time installation fee, ranging from 100–150 EUR, along with a monthly subscription fee for internet service. Monthly plans will start at approximately 30–40 EUR, with exact pricing varying based on the plan selected.
Dr. Søren Trebst, CEO of OXG, expressed excitement about the collaboration, stating, "This partnership sends a strong signal for comprehensive fiber expansion in Leipzig and drives the city onto the digital fast lane." Economy Mayor Clemens Schulke also expressed gratitude for OXG's investment in Leipzig's infrastructure.
The new fiber connections will offer ultra-fast speeds of 1 Gbit/s and more, making it possible for residents to enjoy seamless online experiences, from streaming high-definition videos to working from home without interruptions. Initially, Vodafone will handle the marketing of connections and provide services like telephone, internet, and TV.
OXG is committed to an open network with free provider and product choice, allowing residents in the areas being developed to freely choose their internet provider via the OXG fiber optic network. Each home and apartment in Leipzig will receive its own fiber connection, ensuring every resident has access to this high-speed internet service.
Moreover, the expansion in Leipzig is independent of reaching a pre-marketing quota and is free for residents. City of Leipzig and OXG have signed a joint declaration of intent for the expansion of more than 27,400 FTTH connections, making this a significant step towards a digital future for the city of Leipzig.
The partnership also includes the construction of a sustainable, energy-efficient FTTH network, ensuring that the city's digital growth is environmentally friendly. For the most up-to-date and precise details, including exact timelines and pricing, it is recommended to check OXG Fiber's official announcements or contact Leipzig city offices directly.
As more partnerships with internet providers follow in the future, Leipzig residents can look forward to a digital future with reliable, ultra-fast internet connections. For more information about the expansion in Leipzig, visit www.oxg.de/leipzig.
