Leapmotor introduces extended-range versions of the C16 SUV models, promising increased driving distance.

In the rapidly expanding electric vehicle (EV) market, Leapmotor has made a significant stride with the introduction of its updated six-seat SUV model, the C16. The Chinese automaker announced the delivery of 293,724 vehicles for the full year 2024, marking a substantial 103.76% increase from the previous year.

The C16, initially launched in June 2024, has recently added two new BEV variants to cater to customers seeking longer range. These new models, priced at RMB 172,800 ($23,590) and RMB 189,800, are powered by a lithium iron phosphate battery pack with a larger capacity of 74.9 kWh, offering an electric range of up to 580 km under CLTC conditions.

The C16 measures 4,915 mm in length, 1,905 mm in width, and 1,770 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,825 mm, providing ample space for both five-seat and six-seat configurations. The entry-level BEV model delivers a maximum output of 220 kW (295 hp), powered by an 800V high-voltage system.

The higher-priced variant is equipped with advanced technology, including a 128-channel LiDAR, 28 driver assistance sensors, and navigation features supported by the Qualcomm 8650 chip.

Leapmotor has made the long-range BEV variants even more attractive with a range of incentives. Customers who order and take delivery of these variants on or before January 31, 2025, will receive a discount of RMB 5,000, a RMB 5,000 interest reduction on financing, a RMB 5,000 trade-in subsidy, and a RMB 7,000 option subsidy.

The C16's competitive pricing positions it as a compelling option in the EV market. The BEV models start at RMB 161,800 (approximately USD 22,600) and go up to RMB 181,800 (approximately USD 25,300). The pricing is slightly lower than the previous generation, making it more attractive to potential buyers.

With single-month deliveries of the C16 exceeding 7,000 in September-November and over 34,679 vehicles delivered since its launch in June last year, the C16 has proven to be a popular choice among EV buyers. The new long-range BEV variants further solidify its position in the market, offering a blend of style, performance, and affordability.
