Knowledge on Estonian digital transformation extends to 16 nations.

The Miracle on the Baltic has truly gone global, as Estonia's digital transformation expertise, financed by €79 million in European Union funds, sparks digital revolutions in 16 countries across three continents.

Partnerships with regional leaders

In cooperation with Estonian IT companies, the e-Governance Academy, an esteemed think tank based in Tallinn, has offered Estonia's digital government solutions and insights to the governments of Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, Northern Macedonia, and Serbia. Consultations are underway with the governments of Turkey and Armenia, while cooperation with Chile, Costa Rica, El Salvador, and Guatemala continues to strengthen.

Empowering Countries, Reinforcing Resilience

According to Hannes Astok, the executive director of the e-Governance Academy, EU membership has been the catalyst for Estonia's digital growth, inspiring many nations as they follow the path of the Estonian digital society.

In Ukraine, EU investments around €51 million have refined digital infrastructure, enhanced public service delivery, and boosted cybersecurity capabilities, aligning closely with the EU's Digital Single Market vision. Key achievements include the implementation of the Trembita data exchange system, innovative digital services, the bolstering of cybersecurity, and mutual recognition of Ukrainian digital identities within the EU.

In Moldova, the EU's €7 million investment supported the establishment of the National Agency for Cyber Security, fostered new cybersecurity legislation, boosted online safety awareness, and fortified cyber defenses, enhancing the nation's cyber resilience.

Strengthening Cyber Defenses and Regional Cooperation

In Georgia, EU financing of around €7 million plays a crucial role in fortifying cyber security and promoting digital literacy among citizens. In the Western Balkans, EU funding, totaling €7 million, focuses on enhancing cybersecurity resilience, boosting local expertise, and fostering regional cooperation.

In Kyrgyzstan, the EU-funded €2 million project streamlined the delivery of digital services via the Tunduk data exchange platform, established foundations for bolstering digital skills, and raised awareness of data protection and cybersecurity among government officials.

By integrating public and private sector expertise, including the contributions from IT giants like Cybernetica, Aktors, and CybExer Technologies, Estonia's digital diplomacy has amplified its global influence in the realm of cybersecurity and e-governance. As the world moves forward with its digital transformation, Estonia continues to pave the way.
