Kazakhstan's Expected IT Services Export Revenue Could Soar to $700 Million by 2024
Kazakhstan Aims to Double IT Services Exports by 2026
Kazakhstan is making significant strides in increasing its IT services exports, with the goal of reaching $1 billion by 2026. This ambitious target is part of the country's broader strategy to diversify its economy and accelerate the digital transformation of public services and private sectors.
For the first time, GovTech products of National Information Technologies JSC, including Smart Data Ukimet, Smart Bridge platforms, and the EPIR website builder, were exported in 2024. The total revenue of these companies was 620 billion tenge (US$1.2 billion), according to official records.
Astana Hub, Kazakhstan's international technology park, plays a key role in promoting IT exports. Residents of Astana Hub export IT services to more than 90 countries. In 2024, Astana Hub's revenue totaled 620 billion tenge (US$1.2 billion), with 227 billion tenge ($430 million) from exports.
One of the key initiatives to achieve this goal is the broadening of digital infrastructure. About 92% of public services are now online, and expanding internet access with Starlink aims to boost regional digitization beyond major urban centers.
Improved connectivity facilitates e-commerce, POS payments, online education, and cloud services for enterprises in remote areas, helping integrate more economic actors into the digital economy. Starlink was tested successfully in rural schools, demonstrating the viability of satellite internet for large-scale adoption across Kazakhstan.
Partnership with global technology providers like IEC Telecom Group, Starlink’s distributor, offers specialized tariffs and integrated solutions for regions in Kazakhstan, enhancing connectivity and digital services.
In January-September 2023, Kazakhstan exported IT services worth $471 million, marking a 26% increase compared to the same period in 2022. Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry Zhaslan Madiyev forecasted that IT services exports could reach $700 million in 2024. The number of companies residing in Astana Hub exceeded 1,500, including 400 international ones.
As Kazakhstan continues to invest in infrastructure modernization, the specific target to double IT exports to $1 billion by 2026 is linked to these digital expansion efforts and technology adoption. This forms part of Kazakhstan’s broader strategy to diversify its economy and accelerate the digital transformation of its public services and private sectors.
