Heads up, folks! The factory in question seems to be managed by Indian Tata Electronics, as per reports. Interestingly, one of the factory's lines is reportedly assembling older iPhone models at the moment.

Moreover, it's rumored that Apple is planning to begin iPhone assembly at a Taiwanese Foxconn plant in Bangalore, India. Four sources confirm this, including a government official. The new plant, expected to be completed by December 2027, could produce up to 50,000 jobs, as claimed by one source. Locally, Apple aims to produce between 300 to 500 iPhones per hour, and the plant is also said to assemble the latest models, the 16 and 16e.

Back in April, the Financial Times reported that due to the U.S.-China trade war, Apple aims to move all U.S.-bound iPhone production to India by 2026. Although most smartphones are still being assembled in China, Apple has been increasing its production capabilities in India through partnerships with Tata Electronics and Foxconn. It's worth noting that a Reuters source clarified that the cost of producing iPhones in India is 5-8% higher than in China, with the difference reaching up to 10% in some cases.

Insights: Apple is aggressively expanding its iPhone assembly operations in India, with partners like Tata Electronics and Foxconn playing key roles. The move is part of an effort to avoid potential tariffs on Chinese imports and shift production away from China due to geopolitical tensions. While India offers advantages like lower labor costs and minimal tariffs for U.S. exports, it currently lacks China's mature supply chain and skilled labor force. Apple's continued expansion in India suggests that the company is willing to accept short-term cost premiums for the benefits of tariff avoidance and reduced geopolitical risk.
