India's Semiconductor Boom: $18.2bn in Projects, New Gas Facilities
India's semiconductor industry is booming. The country has approved 10 projects worth $18.2bn, including two semiconductor fabrication plants, as part of its $10bn India Semiconductor Mission. Meanwhile, INOX Air Products has begun constructing a specialty gas facility in Dholera, India, to serve the growing demand in the sector.
INOX Air Products, the second largest gas company in India with revenues of $244.6m and a 14.2% market share, is building the facility to produce nitrogen, oxygen, argon, and hydrogen. It is expected to launch within 12 to 18 months, according to INOX Group's Managing Director, Siddharth Jain. This move aligns with the upcoming $11bn semiconductor fab by Tata Electronics in partnership with Powerchip, which will also benefit from this new gas supply.
In addition to INOX Air Products, other companies like Linde India and Messer Group are planning to establish production facilities for specialized gas mixtures in India. This surge in investment has raised concerns among experts about the long-term sustainability of India's semiconductor industry. They emphasize the need for a deeper ecosystem to support this growth.
India's semiconductor industry is witnessing significant growth with major investments in production plants and gas facilities. While these projects promise to boost the sector, experts caution about the need for a robust ecosystem to ensure long-term sustainability.
