Increase in Visitors Marks the Conclusion of IAA Event
The 2025 IAA Mobility event, held in Munich, has made history by surpassing the visitor record set in 2023, with over 500,000 attendees. This year marked the first time the event was held in Munich, having moved from Frankfurt in 2021.
The event, which focused on new electric models from German manufacturers and a record participation of Chinese competitors, was met with consistently positive feedback from exhibitors. VDA President Hildegard Müller praised the enthusiastic visitors, stating that their interest in the mobility of the future is a testament to the event's relevance and importance.
Munich police reported a positive balance after the event, with significantly fewer crimes registered compared to the 2023 edition. The quieter course of the event can, in part, be attributed to a lower number of protests. However, environmental organizations and climate activists still held demonstrations during the event.
The next three editions of the IAA Mobility event, until 2031, will also take place in Munich. The B2B trade fair in Riem during the 2025 event had record figures, with over 69,000 trade visitors from 108 countries.
The event featured around 750 exhibitors from 73 countries, and around 350 world premieres and innovations were presented. Notably, the countries most strongly represented were China and Germany, with Chinese manufacturers playing a major role and German companies like BMW, Audi, Mercedes, and VW shining as well.
Despite the success of the event, criticisms were voiced by organizations such as Bund Naturschutz and Verkehrsclub Deutschland. They criticised the event for promoting a future with more SUVs, more concrete, and more profit at the expense of humans and nature.
Overall, the 2025 IAA Mobility event in Munich was a resounding success, breaking records and setting a new standard for automotive events. With the next three editions set to take place in Munich, it will be interesting to see how the event continues to evolve and adapt to the changing landscape of the automotive industry.
