Honda readies for the debut of Ye brand's first electric vehicle, the Ye S7, in China

The automotive world is abuzz with excitement as Honda, in collaboration with Dongfeng Honda, prepares to introduce a new electric vehicle (EV) brand in China – the Ye brand. The first model under this new brand, the Ye S7, an SUV (sport utility vehicle), is set to hit the market in 2025.

The Ye S7 made its debut on July 12, with the filing information being released by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. This marks the last major regulatory process before the Ye S7 can be sold in China. The public was given a chance to submit feedback on the Ye S7 between July 13-19.

Images of the exterior of the Ye S7 were shared by Dongfeng Honda on Weibo on July 14, revealing a sleek and modern design reminiscent of current mainstream EV models, complete with a panoramic sunroof. The Ye S7 boasts a length of 4,750 mm, width of 1,930 mm, height of 1,625 mm, and wheelbase of 2,930 mm.

Powering the Ye S7 are dual electric motors supplied by United Automotive Electronic Systems. The maximum power of these electric motors is 150 kW and 200 kW respectively. However, specific details about the battery supplier or expected battery purchases from CATL for the Ye S7 are not yet available.

It is worth noting that Honda China signed a strategic cooperation memorandum with CATL on September 7, 2022, for a long-term stable power battery supply relationship. CATL, a leading battery manufacturer, has developed new EV batteries with remarkable specifications, including a 1 million mile warranty and an expected lifespan of over 15 years.

In addition to the Ye S7, Honda plans to launch six models under the new Ye brand in China by 2027. Another model, the Ye P7 crossover, is already being produced at Honda's Guangzhou Factory, built in collaboration with GAC. This production uses AI-driven welding techniques to improve efficiency and reduce costs.

Honda aims for a 100% electrification transition in China by 2035. Between 2024 and 2030, Honda expects to purchase 123 GWh of power batteries for pure-play EVs from CATL in China. The Ye S7 uses lithium ternary batteries supplied by CATL, produced in Yichun, Jiangxi Province.

The Ye S7 has a top speed of 180 kilometers per hour and weighs 2,305 kilograms. As more details about the Ye S7 become available, we will continue to update you on this exciting new development in the world of electric vehicles.
