Hitachi to Transform Welsh Public Transport with Digital Booking System

Transport for Wales (TfW) has chosen Hitachi to revolutionize public transport in Wales. The Japanese tech giant will provide a digital back-office solution for seamless planning and booking of various transport modes, aiming to enhance customer experience and attract more users to the network.

Hitachi's digital booking system will be accessible through a user-friendly app, covering rail, local bus, fflecsi, TrawsCymru services, and micromobility options. The company, which currently handles 50 million multimodal ticketing transactions daily, will deliver this comprehensive solution over the next five years.

Hitachi is drawing from its digital expertise in the Japanese rail network and Italian initiatives to develop a bespoke Mobility as a Service (MaaS) product for Wales. Meanwhile, Zipabout, in partnership with TfW, will develop a MaaS app integrating rail, bus, and active travel planning and payments.

Hitachi's multimodal digital booking system, set to be rolled out across Wales over the next five years, promises to transform public transport. By harnessing Hitachi's global expertise and Zipabout's local knowledge, TfW aims to improve customer experience, increase usage, and create a seamless, integrated transport network.
