Hiring Announcement: Norther Trust Asset Management Appoints New Leader for International and Sustainable Investing

Pedro Guazo, a seasoned investor and business leader with over 30 years of experience in global financial institutions, has been named as the new head of international and responsible investing at Northern Trust Asset Management (NTAM).

Guazo, who most recently served as CEO of the office of investment management for the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund, will now lead NTAM's business across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific, including its $189 billion global responsible investing platform. The dual-role appointment aims to expand NTAM's global reach and deepen its ESG leadership.

During his five-year tenure at the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund, Guazo transformed the fund by growing its assets by nearly 60%, significantly expanding its private markets program, and diversifying the portfolio across new asset classes. The fund under his leadership was recognised as a leader in responsible investing and was a founding signatory to the Principles for Responsible Investment.

Guazo's commitment to responsible investing is further reinforced in his new role at NTAM. His position at the intersection of ESG, governance, and regulatory matters has been highlighted, with his service on the Investor Advisory Group for the International Sustainability Standards Board serving as a testament to his expertise in these areas.

Guazo's leadership is expected to be instrumental in growing NTAM's international business and delivering long-term value to clients through responsible investment solutions. Subject to regulatory approval, he will also be appointed CEO of Northern Trust Global Investments Limited.

Guazo's academic background includes an International Executive MBA from Instituto de Empresa Business School in Madrid and a master’s degree in applied economics from Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey. He began his career at Invesco Real Estate and also served as finance director at the United Nations for eight years.

Guazo will be based in London and join NTAM's global leadership team, reporting to NTAM president Daniel Gamba. His global perspective, extensive experience, and commitment to responsible investing make him a valuable addition to the team as NTAM continues to grow and expand its impact in the global financial market.
