T2 Brings Modern Connectivity to Remote Tomsk Oblast Settlements

In a significant development, T2, a Russian mobile operator, has successfully provided reliable 4G internet and voice connectivity to five small towns in Tomsk Oblast, a region known for its challenging terrain and climate.

The five small towns – Lukashkin Yar in Alexandrovsky District, Bondarka in Karagasinsky District, Belovodovka in Zyryansky District, Goralovka in Chainsky District, and the village of Nizhnyaya Chigara in Parabelsky District – were previously devoid of such services due to the lack of reliable mobile connectivity. Each of these settlements has fewer than 500 residents.

T2's efforts in Tomsk Oblast have significantly improved the digital infrastructure of the region's remote settlements. The operator has been instrumental in ensuring stable voice connectivity and high-speed 4G internet in 37 small towns over the past five years.

Alexander Krasnykh, Director of T2's Tomsk Oblast branch, acknowledged the challenges posed by the region. He stated that Tomsk Oblast is one of the most challenging regions for developing telecommunications due to its vast territories, boggy landscapes, difficult-to-navigate forests, and harsh climate.

To overcome these challenges, T2 has deployed robust 4G LTE infrastructure optimized to function in remote and climatically challenging environments typical for Tomsk Oblast. This includes resilient base stations and backhaul links designed to remain operational in severe cold and difficult terrain.

The operator has also leveraged advanced network solutions such as private LTE initiatives or specialized radio technology to extend coverage and maintain quality voice and data services where standard urban networks are problematic. Collaboration with regional authorities and emergency services has also been crucial in ensuring communication reliability in isolated settlements.

Infrastructure used in Tomsk Oblast typically includes weather-resistant hardware enclosures and power supply systems suited to cold weather, deployment of macro and small cells strategically to maximize coverage in difficult-to-access locations, and redundant and backup network paths to maintain connectivity despite environmental disruptions.

The provision of stable internet and voice connectivity by T2 has enabled residents to stay connected with loved ones, work, learn, and entertain online. They now have access to modern digital services such as video calls, messengers, online movies, remote work and learning, and electronic government services.

T2's services in these towns mark a significant improvement in their digital infrastructure. Before T2's intervention, no mobile operator had a reliable signal in these five towns.

Despite the challenges, T2 has not been deterred from continuing their work in this area. They plan to continue improving connectivity in remote settlements, ensuring that more residents of Tomsk Oblast can reap the benefits of modern digital services.

  1. Traditional communication methods in the five remote settlements of Tomsk Oblast have been replaced by the introduction of modern technologies, such as smartphones and gadgets, thanks to T2's implementation of reliable 4G internet and voice connectivity.
  2. With access to high-speed 4G internet and advanced network solutions, residents of these previously disconnected settlements can now use various digital services, increasing their access to smartphones, gadgets, and other technologies that promote communication, work, and entertainment.
